William Lindsay

My work is often a response to landscapes but not often a direct representation. Painting and drawing from the environment around me stores a collection of experiences and the paintings shown here are my idea of mountain scenes. For drawings and paintings on paper, I generally use ink, graphite, pastel and sometimes oil bar, but these small works are oil paint on paper. My larger works are usually oil on canvas. After studying geology, I worked in palaeontology and conservation at the Natural History Museum in London and went on to lead the Royal College of Art/V&A Museum conservation department at the Royal College of Art, followed by research at The National Archives. Returning to Scotland, I attended the painting course at Leith School of Art and have continued to develop my practice since.
