I live and work in Edinburgh. I work with a bold palette to create images of mainly birds and other animals that I hope seize the imagination and that people can relate to. I work mainly in acrylics and mixed media on board and on canvas. I suppose I could be described as “self-taught” but for several years I attended evening classes and weekend courses at the Glasgow School of Art to improve my technique, widen my experience and stimulate my creative processes. Most of my recent work is paintings of birds, exotic and otherwise, against bold colourful backgrounds and a series of characterful portraits of dogs “Dug Shots” – I also like painting all sorts of wildlife – from exotic beasts of the hot plains of Africa, wild spirits from the dark forests of Scotland to more domestic characters of the back garden. I have exhibited and sold work at the RGI, PAI and RSW. I also exhibit and sell my paintings through a number of galleries across Scotland and the north of England.
