Gillian Sim

I grew up in a village on the beautiful east coast of Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands. I have always loved art but initially did not follow that particular career path. After studying in Edinburgh, I then worked in Glasgow before moving to London. On my return to Scotland, after 10 years, I decided to take up art again and joined local art clubs before completing an Art & Design Portfolio course at college. I attended the University of Strathclyde’s Centre for Lifelong Learning (2012-2016) achieving a Certificate of Higher Education in Creative Arts. I have always drawn inspiration from the beautiful Scottish landscape and use this in my textile work with merino fleece fibres and silks laying down the fibres in the same way that a painter uses different coloured paints and brushstrokes to create a painting. The completed process creates a ‘felt painting’. Over the years, I have displayed my art in exhibitions throughout Glasgow and the surrounding areas.
