David Hay

I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1970. My tutors included William Gillies, Robin Philipson, John Houston and Elizabeth Blackadder.
I was Principal Teacher of Art & Design in Kelso High School until retirement in 2008. I became a Professional Member of Visual Arts Scotland in 2006.
I am represented by numerous galleries throughout Scotland and the north of England.
I live and paint in the Borders village of Yetholm and my paintings relate mostly to the local landscape from the Bowmont Valley to the Northumberland coast.
Atmosphere, changing light, weather and their effect on the mood of my subjects are of great interest to me.
I use a water based under painting then work and rework with glazes of colour until the image becomes established. This can take weeks to achieve but strangely it is occasionally immediate.
