TURK, Lindsay

My painting frequently focuses on natural scenes and cycles, stilling into focus things so often missed – the play of light softening an otherwise solid object, the anticipated perfect moment of a bloom, the space between a bird’s flight and fall, the splitting of light by boughs and branches.
Often painting in series and working on various themes, my work is underpinned by a consistent attraction to capturing the light and atmosphere of a single moment or a particular place. I focus on the small shifts and subtle changes in light and movement within nature: things governed by external elements such as weather, gravity, passing seasons and the cycles of life. I aim to create a sense of solidity and permanence to fleeting moments and to the subtleties of nature that are frequently overlooked.
