O’BRIEN, Gerard

I am a landscape architect and artist and am interested in the relationships between representation of landscape (including cityscape) in my profession and in fine art.I ask, through drawing and experimentation, where the boundaries between illustration and art piece are? Or where the tension between architectural representation and the framed artwork is? This is an uneasy classification and declassification process of work and myself.

I am also interested in the natural world generally and draw from it literally and metaphorically. Indeed I have a degree in Zoology and spent many an hour in Dublin’s natural history museum, known affectionately as the ‘Dead Zoo’,drawing animal specimens.

In both strands of my work I am a grown man with a child’s wonder for things.
