I studied at Glasgow School of Art and have been working as an artist in Edinburgh for a number of years. My artwork is about my experience of the fragility of life; exploring the nature of domestic warmth and the outside risks that threaten to destroy it.
I draw specifically from objects and places associated with childhood. In the presence of these objects or places their remain fragments of haunting memories. The playful aspect of toys can be ambiguous; at once reassuring and unsettling but nevertheless they serve to emphasise the owner’s absence. Things are not always as they appear on the surface – something more sinister can be going on behind the scenes. I aim to capture the feeling and atmosphere of those objects, not only at that moment in time but also what they represented in the past.
