My work is mainly inspired by a passion for colour and a lifelong love of the countryside – local landscapes, hills, trees and paths which I see when out walking, and also my garden.
I qualified with an MA in Woven Textile Design from the Royal College of Art and worked for 15 years as a freelance designer. My training as a crafts person and designer forms the basis for how I process and develop ideas and compositions.
Painting can be a way of sharing an experience. I try to capture a moment, a sense of place, the colours, textures, light and mood. I interpret what I see, and explore the balance of contrasts within a composition.
I enjoy the diversity of different media and use both water mixable oil paints and watercolours, choosing the style and medium that I think is best suited to explore and represent the subject.
I am part-time Artist in Residence at Culcreuch Castle, Fintry. My work is now held in private collections locally, in the UK, in America and Australia.
