My current artistic practice investigates the idea of how painting can be used as a means of recording memory and the peripheral vision and non-static vistas of a journey.
To develop my work, I built an archive of drawings photos and sound recordings of my daily bus journey commuting from Edinburgh to Glasgow. I then created my paintings based on multiple vistas that incorporated elements of the external and internal space of the bus recording my peripheral views to the left and right of me as well as external and internal space in the bus. I became interested in creating work that reflected not only momentum but constantly changing internal and external vistas. The process of creating these paintings led me to build up layers incorporating different viewpoints and then use abrasive material to strip back layers which were then repainted creating subtle shifts in colour as well as an interplay between multiple viewpoints.
