Over the years, the Macmillan Art Show has gone from strength to strength and in this, its 15th year, the curatorial team really had its work cut out in selecting from a formidable field of highly talented artists. As always, we aim to present original art in a wide variety of styles and themes for all tastes.
We are very grateful to all exhibitors for their generosity in making wonderful art for a great cause and by donating at least 50% of the selling price to Macmillan, which goes directly to help people with cancer.
In particular I am delighted to welcome a group of emerging new artists, those between the ages of 18 to 25, and we look forward to seeing many more in future shows. Do look out for the work of Alice Campbell, Sara Julia Campbell, Ashley Christie, Madeleine Gardiner, Rebekah Hill, Zsofia Jakab, Alice Newman, Nuno Pires, Imogen Richards, Natasha Ruwona, Harriet Selka, Lorna Sinclair, Jamie Steedman, Danielle Stewart, Hayley Whittingham and Katarzyna Wojdyla, all exhibiting with us for the first time. We hope you will give them your generous support.
Last year we were very saddened to hear of the loss of one of our highly regarded older artists, Jim Lennie, whose wife Val has kindly donated some of his watercolours and prints to this year’s show. Jim started to paint seriously when he retired in 2003 from his work as a respected Quantity Surveyor of historic buildings. He went on to be a member of the Scottish Society of Architect Artists and exhibited at Edinburgh’s Marchmont Gallery. We will miss Jim very much.
Due to space restrictions, we are unfortunately not able to show contemporary jewellery or ceramics this year, but we will be selling very popular unframed original art work after the preview night. By adapting the show to changing demands, and to keep our loyal visitors coming back year after year, we are proud to present affordable, original art work of the highest quality.
Finally, I should mention that the beautifully produced catalogue is wholly donated to us by The Publishing House and all money raised from sales goes to Macmillan. Please do remember to buy one on your way in as a guide to help you navigate the show, and a souvenir.
I look forward to seeing you in August and hope you find something you like and that will give you a great deal of pleasure for many years.
